Cabinet refinishing

What is cabinet refinishing?
The boxes screwed to your wall stay where they are. The doors, drawer fronts and face frames — the parts you actually look at — are taken off, degreased, sanded, primed and sprayed, then rehung. You keep your layout and your cabinets, and you change the colour and the condition.
How long does it take?
Days rather than the weeks or months a full replacement runs to. The exact number depends on how many doors there are and how much filling they need. He will give you a real figure at the estimate rather than a number off a brochure.
Can I use my kitchen while the work happens?
Mostly, yes. The doors and drawer fronts leave to be sprayed; the boxes, counters and appliances stay. You lose the doors for the duration, not the room, and you are not cooking around a building site.
Will refinished cabinets chip or peel?
Any finish chips if you hit it hard enough, a factory one included. What decides how a refinished door holds up is almost entirely the preparation underneath — degreasing, then sanding so the primer has something to key into. That is why the prep is the slowest part of the job and why a quote that is suspiciously quick is usually quick in that step.
Does Southwest Florida humidity affect the finish?
It affects the schedule more than the result. High humidity slows the cure, so doors need longer before they can be handled and longer again before the finish is fully hard. It is a good reason to be sceptical of anyone promising a same-week turnaround in August.
Can you match a specific colour?
Yes. The three finishes shown on this site are real Sherwin-Williams cabinet colours — Alabaster SW 7008, Accessible Beige SW 7036 and Naval SW 6244 — because they are the ones most people land on. They are a starting point, not the menu. Bring a colour and it can be sprayed.
Should I refinish or replace?
Replace if the layout is wrong, if you need more storage, or if the boxes have water damage — a swollen sink base needs replacing, not coating. Refinish if the boxes are sound and you are simply tired of the look. He fits new cabinets as well as refinishing them, so the answer you get is not steered by which job he would rather have.
How accurate is the photo preview?
It is a colour visualisation, not a photograph of the finished job and not a guarantee of finish quality. It is there to answer 'what would navy actually look like in my kitchen' in about a minute without anyone driving out. Treat it as a very good idea of the colour and the effect, and treat the estimate as the thing that tells you about the work.
What does it cost?
Every kitchen is priced on door count and condition, so there is no honest per-kitchen figure to put on a website — and a "from $X" that turns into something else on the day helps nobody. The estimate is free and it is where you get a real number. Typical range for this area. Your exact price depends on door count and condition, and is confirmed on site.
Do you charge for the estimate?
No. Free estimates, and for the colour question you do not need one at all — send a photo and see three finishes on your own kitchen first.
How far do you travel?
The whole of Southwest Florida — Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Lehigh Acres, Bonita Springs, North Fort Myers and everywhere between. Somewhere further out is not automatically a no; send the photo and he will tell you straight.
Do you do anything besides cabinets?
Yes — cabinet installation, trim & finish carpentry, drywall repair, interior painting, plus kitchen makeovers and bath remodels. It is all finish work and it is all him, so a kitchen does not need three trades booked around each other.
How do I get hold of you?
Call or text (239) 785-4125 — he invites both. Or send a photo through the tool on the home page and you will hear back the same day, usually within minutes.
